Last chance to support KPW Fights Cancer

The King Philip Walpole Youth Hockey community has one last opportunity to join the American Cancer Society, the NHL and the NHL Players' Association during the first King Philip Walpole Youth Hockey Fights Cancer fundraiser.

The first 'KPW Fights Cancer Weekend' was held Oct. 26-28 to benefit the American Cancer Society as part of Hockey Fights Cancer, a joint initiative started in 1998 between the NHL and NHLPA.

No disease has touched as many families as cancer, and KPW is doing our part to move closer to a cure by being the first youth hockey program in Massachusetts to partner with Hockey Fights Cancer.

You can still support this fundraiser two ways:

  • Make a pledge toward every goal KPW's travel teams score in games played Oct. 26-28 (KPW's teams typically score 75-100 goals per weekend), using the American Cancer Society's Pledge It web site.
  • Purchase a raffle ticket to win Boston Bruins tickets. The grand prize is four tickets in Loge 22, Row 4, when the Bruins play the New York Islanders Thursday, Nov. 29 (a $600 value); the second prize is two tickets in Loge 1, Row 12, when the Bruins play the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday, March 5 (a $300 value), generously donated by the Norfolk Arena.

KPW full-season boys and girls 18U teams

King Philip Walpole Youth Hockey is planning for full-season boys and girls 18U teams, and we are looking to gauge potential interest in both teams. Players do not have to have played for KPW before, can be residents of any town and we expect the programs to begin around Dec. 1.

The boys team will play roughly 18 games in the South Shore Conference 18U full-season conference, and will cost $339 (plus $75 for game and practice jerseys and socks for any new players).

The girls team will follow a similar approach to last season, with a mix of practices, skills sessions and scrimmage games depending on the availability of potential opponents, and also will cost $339 (plus $35 for practice jerset and socks).

If you are interested in playing for either the boys or girls team, please reach out to either 18U director Brian McDevitt (BRIAN.MCDEVITT@ca.com) or girls director Ronnie O'Shea (ronnieoshea@gmail.com) and let them know whether you're definitely or possibly interested (pending, say, whether your child makes a varsity team).
